It’s 10 years since Birthrights exists – to support, challenge, raise awareness on rights for women and birthing people. I’ve been working with them to get their event under way which will mark their progress. And everyone who has contributed to it.
Am very love/hate with events.
Have done many over the years, short online ones, festivals, immerive art experiences…and became disillusioned when I couldn’t see the value of ALL THAT WORK for maybe just a couple of hours.
But in 2023, my toes dipped back in.
I worked with the GLA on a programme of 14 events in 7 days – alot of work which felt like shifts were happening for policy makers and community leads. And then this one, where we gave ourselves time, did much of the leg work early on and carefully thought events as long term investment.
– Events comments feeding into a strategic doc
– Lived experiences being told in a film format that serves as future campaigning
– Commissioning poets so we have something unique and are able to share the art work in different ways
V big shout out to the creative forces of https://www.instagram.com/dezziiee_ and https://www.instagram.com/neelam_the_poet/. I’ve so enjoyed what their work does to stir humans. I’ve also learnt alot from calm, organised approaches in Janaki and Shanthi -Joint CEO’s at Birthrights. I think I’m in love again with events.
